Financial Platform IT Support: CRM, Portfolio, Compliance & Trading Systems

Are You Familiar With My Financial Platform? (CRM, Portfolio, Compliance & Trading Systems)

Probably — and if we don’t know it by name, we know how to support the environment it runs in.

Financial services firms run on an ecosystem of specialized platforms that most IT companies have never touched. When your CRM stops syncing with your portfolio management tool the morning of a quarterly review, or a compliance update breaks your email archiving configuration, “we’ll look into it” from a generalist IT provider isn’t particularly comforting.

NerdSquad works with financial advisors, RIAs, broker-dealers, wealth management firms, and financial planning practices throughout South Florida and beyond. Here’s an honest look at the platforms we encounter most — and what “supporting” them actually means.

CRM and client management

Salesforce Financial Services Cloud — The enterprise-grade CRM purpose-built for financial services. We support FSC environments including integration with portfolio management platforms, Microsoft 365 connectivity, SSO configuration, user access management, and the underlying infrastructure that keeps it performant.

Redtail CRM — One of the most widely used CRMs in the RIA and independent advisor space. We handle Redtail’s integration with portfolio tools, document management systems, and email platforms, and we troubleshoot the inevitable sync issues that come with any multi-system environment.

Wealthbox — The newer, cleaner challenger to Redtail. Increasingly popular with smaller and solo advisory practices. We support Wealthbox environments and their integrations with custodians, planning tools, and Microsoft 365.

Junxure / AdvisorEngine — Common in ensemble advisory practices and multi-advisor offices. Similar integration support applies.

Portfolio management and performance reporting

Orion Advisor Solutions — Portfolio accounting, performance reporting, client portal, and increasingly planning and trading functionality. We manage the device and infrastructure environment that Orion runs on, coordinate with Orion support for platform-level issues, and handle user provisioning, access controls, and integrations with custodian data feeds.

Envestnet | Tamarac — Common in larger RIA practices. Tamarac’s portfolio accounting and rebalancing tools have specific infrastructure requirements we’re familiar with.

Riskalyze / Nitrogen — Risk tolerance and proposal tools. Usually integrates with your CRM and portfolio platform. We handle the integration layer and the devices advisors use to run it.

Morningstar Office / ByAllAccounts — Data aggregation and performance reporting. We support the underlying infrastructure and data connectivity.

Black Diamond (SS&C) — Increasingly common in mid-size and larger practices. We coordinate with SS&C support and manage the environment around it.

Compliance, archiving, and supervision

This is where IT and compliance requirements intersect most directly — and where most generalist IT companies get it wrong.

Smarsh — The market leader in electronic communications archiving. Captures email, text, Teams, Slack, and other communications for FINRA and SEC Books & Records compliance. We deploy Smarsh, configure it for your communication channels, verify it’s actually capturing what it’s supposed to, and monitor it for configuration drift. A Smarsh deployment nobody’s actively managing is a liability waiting to surface during an examination.

Global Relay — Common in broker-dealer environments. Same support posture as Smarsh — deploy, configure, verify, monitor.

Entreda / Smarsh Cybersecurity — Some larger firms use these platforms for cybersecurity risk management and vendor oversight. We integrate our monitoring and documentation into these environments.

Financial planning tools

eMoney Advisor — The dominant comprehensive planning platform for fee-only and fee-based advisors. We handle the Microsoft 365 integrations, device management for advisors using eMoney in client meetings, and any infrastructure requirements.

MoneyGuidePro (PIEtech) — Common alternative. Similar support approach.

RightCapital — Growing quickly in the fee-only space. Lighter infrastructure requirements than eMoney, but the integration and device support model is the same.

Trading and order management

Orion Trading — We support the advisor-side infrastructure: devices, connectivity, access controls, and integrations with custodian trading systems.

iRebal (Schwab) — Now part of the Schwab advisor ecosystem post-merger. We manage the environment advisors use to access it.

RedBlack / Vestmark — Common in larger practices and TAMPs. We coordinate with vendor support and manage the surrounding infrastructure.

Custodian platforms

We’re familiar with the advisor-facing technology environments for the major custodians: Schwab Advisor Services, Fidelity Institutional, Pershing NetX360, and LPL ClientWorks. We manage every device and system your team uses to access them, including secure remote access, MFA enrollment, and the integrations between your custodian and your portfolio management tools.

What "supporting" a financial platform actually means

Supporting your technology stack doesn’t mean we’re inside the platform doing compliance reviews or building financial plans. It means:

  • Frontline troubleshooting — diagnosing whether something is a platform issue, an integration issue, or an infrastructure issue, and routing it correctly without you playing telephone.
  • User access management — provisioning new advisors, removing departed ones completely, and making sure no lingering access to client data remains.
  • Integration monitoring — when the data feed between your CRM and portfolio system stops syncing, we catch it before you do.
  • Patch and update management — testing updates before they hit production, and rolling back when needed.
  • Vendor coordination — when the issue is on the vendor’s side, we advocate on your behalf and monitor resolution. You don’t spend your afternoon on a vendor support call.
  • Audit trail support — documenting who has access to what and when changes were made, in a format your compliance program can use.

Where we draw the line

We manage the technology around your platforms — not inside them doing advisory, compliance, or financial work. What we will do: make sure the technology environment those people work in is fast, secure, properly archived, and compliant with what GLBA and SEC/FINRA require on the IT side.

Have a platform not on this list?

Ask us. If you’re running something we haven’t encountered, we’ll evaluate it, learn what we need to learn, and tell you honestly if there are any limitations on our side. We don’t fake familiarity.
